InfoTech Helps Nadra Go Digital By Enabling It To Offer Citizen Services Online

IBM Websphere will power NADRA’s online CNIC application service rolling it off a powerful application architecture that is efficient, secure and agile.

NADRA (National Database & Registration Authority) is one of the largest system integrators in the global identification (ID) sector and regularly ranks in the Top e-Passport providers in the world. With extensive experience in designing, implementing and operating ID solutions for corporate and public sector clients NADRA is an award winning company that continues to innovate in this sector. Multi-Biometric National Identity Card & Multi-Biometric e-Passport solutions for Pakistan, Passport Issuing System for Kenya, Bangladesh High Security Driver’s License, and Civil Registration Management System for Sudan are some of the large scale complex projects NADRA has successfully delivered. NADRA offers its clients a portfolio of customizable solutions for identification, e-governance and secure documents with computerized passports and ID cards on a national scale as its core competency.

NADRA began the civil registration of all Pakistanis in March 2000 and created modern centralized Data Warehouse, Network Infrastructure and Interactive Data Acquisition Systems to issue secure Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC). This sophisticated computerized system was successful in reducing identity theft to bare minimum, but citizens faced a major issue of long queues and the hassle of physically reporting to the NADRA registration centers for the issuance of CNIC cards. Moreover, if you were a Pakistani national living abroad and you needed to either apply, renew or report a missing national identity card, you had to go the nearest physical Nadra office which were often not in your country!

NADRA decided to bring the process online for customer satisfaction and convenience and as a key phase in its going digital strategy. InfoTech consultants and IBM Pakistan worked together to respond to NADRA. As IBM’s Premier Business Partner, InfoTech was selected by NADRA through a rigorous competitive process.

InfoTech demonstrated to NADRA how IBM WebSphere optimized on an IBM Power 8 infrastructure was the best solution for the online service. Along with deployment of IBM Websphere, InfoTech provides the consulting design, integration and deployment, back end web hosting support and comprehensive change management training sessions until the project went live.

NADRA has now moved firmly into the digital age and will now enable Pakistani citizens to apply for CNIC card services online instead of visiting their registration centers. The enabled process if full cycle meaning everything from online document submission, credit card payment, operational process for creating ID card, and home delivery of the CNIC works seamlessly together to facilitate the public. By eliminating the hassle of long queues and enabling overseas Pakistanis to access their documentation from anywhere at any time securely and by creating a robust application architecture capable of rolling off new citizen services faster, NADRA has now set a benchmark for e-governance in emerging markets.
